Murray Gartly began working with children as a YMCA Day Camp Counselor in 1996. His love of sports drew him to coaching, achieving his National Coaching Certification Levels I and II in 2002. He has coached basketball at the elementary, high school, and post-secondary levels since 1997, and he currently coaches the Junior Girls (grade 10) team at St. Michaels University School.
Murray holds a B.A. in Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge, and a Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching) from the University of Calgary. He has experience teaching students from Kindergarten through grade 12, and has taught a wide range of subjects.
