Driver Training
To support students in obtaining their driving license, SMUS
and Wallace Driving School offer the following programme:
GLP Novice Programme – Class 7-N
Students who take this course will receive 2 credits of Applied
Skills on their transcript. They will also be eligible for a
6-month reduction in the Novice stage of the Graduated Licensing
Programme.
- 20 hours of classroom time, with B.C. Certified
Teachers
- 12 hours of private driving lessons
- Defensive driving techniques that integrate with classroom
theory
- Highway/freeway and downtown experience
- Vehicle handling skills - uphill, downhill, parallel parking,
backing into parking stalls, 3 point turns, risk perception
and running commentary
- All classroom sessions will take place at SMUS and driving
lesson pick-up will be at SMUS; most driving sessions are 1.5
hours Once you have your ‘L’, you can start
your practical driving lessons any time
- Students must attend all three sessions (make-up lessons
are available on a limited basis, at an alternate location).
- Students organize their driving sessions directly with Wallace
Driving School, and can begin as soon as the classroom sessions
have begun. Driving times are flexible so they meet the individual
needs of the students.

Students are also required to complete a minimum of 48 additional
(documented) hours of driving practice prior to doing their Class
7 Novice road test. For students with no access to a vehicle,
Wallace Driving School has a number of different car and lesson
packages available:
6 hrs - $480
12 hrs - $960
20 hrs - $1600
These programmes are open to students outside the SMUS community.
