Boarding at SMUS
Philosophy and Goals
Boarding at St. Michaels University School is so much more than having a place to live and eat during your secondary school years. Boarding is a way of life that offers unique opportunities to experience different cultures, develop confidence and independence, and form lifelong work, study and service habits.
You will build enduring friendships
When you invest yourself in this vibrant and exciting community, you will learn compromise, negotiation, patience and tolerance. Strength of character, self-discipline, and personal integrity are of prime importance and enable you to cultivate lifelong friends.
You will not only learn, but you will also teach
From the dormitories to the dining room, from the locker rooms to the laboratories, issues of morality and ethics, of social, physical and spiritual growth arise. You will bring your own experience, culture and traditions and share them amongst a community of willing learners. You will develop confidence and trust in yourself, while enriching lives around you.
You will practice balance
Schoolwork, homework, outdoor education, service activities in the community and special boarding events are just some of the things on a SMUS boarders' schedule. The habits you develop will follow you through post-secondary education, your career and your life.
Created by students and staff together, the residences provide a nurturing, homelike atmosphere. The 250 international and Canadian students between the ages of 12 and 18 – grades 8 through 12 – form the population of this coeducational community. Students from more than 20 countries study side-by-side, creating a modern, dynamic global community.
