Learning Resource Support

Learning resource support helps students conquer obstacles to their academic success. Some students require additional help with weaker subject areas while others have severe learning disabilities that require constant assistance.

All children learn at different rates and in different ways. At any time, a child may require extra assistance with a particular project or an extra challenge in an area where they excel. Some children require ongoing support: our learning resource specialists help these students and their teachers.

Learning resource specialists:

  • provide assistance and enrichment on a long- and short-term basis;
  • work with teachers to adapt the curriculum;
  • develop Individual Education Plans;
  • provide support and strategies for parents; and
  • assess student needs and refer students to outside specialists when required.

The learning resource teacher collaborates with subject teachers to help students achieve their personal potential. Levels of support vary by need. Some students benefit from help with organization, time management, study skills, and specific subject support, while others require special support or enrichment. Learning resource teachers also implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for some students.

Learning Resources at the Senior School

Senior School has a dedicated staff of learning resource specialists to provide our students with the tools and skills they need to reach their potential. These are just some of the ways our learning resource specialists help our students:

  • work with subject teachers to address a student's learning obstacles;
  • help plan student transitions;
  • develop and implement programs for students with low-incidence disabilities;
  • apply assistive technology; and
  • understand and work with students with social and emotional difficulties.

Levels of support vary by need. Some students benefit from help with organization, time management, study skills, and specific-subject support, while others require special support or enrichment.

At the Senior School, our learning resource specialists also offer note-taking services, thanks to a group of student volunteers who share their class notes with peers.
