Library
Each school has its own library, with computers, recreational reading and research resources.
Junior School
zz Junior School Life: Library
The library is the heart of the Junior School: it is a dynamic environment that draws children in and helps to create excited, lifelong readers. All classes visit the library on a regular basis with their Language Arts teacher for book exchanges and for lessons taught by our teacher-librarian.
Through the library program, students:
- form a positive attitude toward reading;
- develop information skills; and
- become better writers.
A Positive Attitude
There is a strong correlation between reading and achievement in school. We permeate the children’s world with books through many ways, including:
- regular book exchanges;
- guest authors and illustrators;
- reading incentive programs;
- book fairs visits; and
- library lessons.
Information Skills
In the library, students learn how to use an automated search and circulation system in order to complete simple but detailed research. Students use these research skills for class assignments and, in the process, access many resources. Beginning in Kindergarten, students also practice note-taking skills and begin to present information in their own words.
Writing
For their class presentations, students use writing skills to convey their ideas clearly. Reading the work of professional writers increases writing ability, so our library contains books for a variety of reading levels and interests. Surrounding children with stories and up-to-date resources inspires both creative and academic writing.
Middle School
zz Middle School Curriculum: Library
The Middle School library program provides a wide variety of student and teacher resources that supplement and extend core courses. Students use the library for class projects as well as independent reading and research.
The Middle School library’s collection includes a variety of print, media and online resources, including:

The collection accommodates a wide range of student interests and abilities, and the adjoining computer lab allows opportunities for online research.
The Middle School computer lab and library are open until 4:00 pm, Monday to Thursday. Students are welcome to use these facilities to complete homework and research.
Senior School
zz Senior School Services: Library
The Senior School library is usually as busy as it is quiet. As the study hub for students in Grades 9-12, the library suits both independent and collaborative work and provides all kinds of student support. Small groups can meet in the McGillivray room, students can use one of 18 desks for independent study, and everyone can use the computers on the main floor for a variety of tasks.
