The Wilson Archives: Visitng Alumni

During late May and early June, Archivist Rob Wilson was on the road in Portland, Oregon (May 22-26) and Alberta (June 6-11).

The Alberta visit was to attend Granddaughter Julia’s convocation at the University of Calgary and to be with sons John (’82) and Matt (’83).  Added attractions included playing golf in Red Deer and watching the Canada v Scotland Rugby Game at Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton. Outside family commitments was a visit with Colin Dykes (’62-’66), one of the most cheerful and loyal alums on record.  The second of three Dykes sons to attend the School as boarders from Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Colin now lives in Red Deer.  He also brought along some old school memorabilia and the 2 hour visit was spent, predictably, ‘going over our glorious past!’.

The trip to Portland was equally memorable and centred around three 1964 grads : John Herpers, Mark Drum and Jeremy Davies.  Photo shows Mark, John and Rob at Waverley Golf Club in Portland:  a beautiful and prestigious course by any standards, where John is a member.  On another day John and Rob enjoyed a good visit with Jeremy at his home in Damascus, Oregon.  John Herpers is a regular visitor to SMUS and supports a scholar from St. Andrew Nativity School in Portland where we also paid a visit.  In between these events John and Nancy Herpers were superb hosts.
