The Wilson Archives: Class of 1965 BBQ Reunion

In the Fall 2002 edition of School Ties I wrote an article about a 1965 University School Grad reunion held in West Vancouver 19 July 2002.  Five 1965 Grads:  Bob Chaworth-Musters, Don MacDonald, Peter Wilde, Robin Barber and Ken Scholefield were joined by 1966 Grad Jim Wenman.  Ian Mugridge and I were invited, for we also left University School in 1965:  Ian to Santa Barbara, California for PhD studies and myself to St. Andrew’s College, Aurora, Ontario.  Families augmented this party to 14 people and it was a BBQ at the home of Bob and Barbara Chaworth-Musters.  The main reason for this party was that Peter Wilde and his family were visiting Vancouver from the USA.

This year, 2018, Peter and Katie Wilde, now living in Boise, Idaho, made a return visit to stay with the Chaworth-Musters, and this was the opportunity to do a replay!  The 2018 edition was another BBQ, held on Canada Day; and with the exception of Ken Scholefield, who was out of town, everyone else made a return appearance.  The party was attended by 17 people and this time there were two more 1965 Grads, Andrew Timmis and Peter Genge, with wives Silvina and Sharon.  Two other guests were Jane Timmis, the youngest child of University School’s (1948-70) Headmaster JJ Timmis, and Robin Barker’s younger brother and 1968 Grad, Richard, who was visiting from Alberta.

As with the 2002 party the weather, the setting and the hospitality were magnificent, and hosts Bob and Barbara Chaworth-Musters deserve much praise.

An interesting footnote: in 1965 the three most senior members of the faculty / staff were – John Timmis, University School’s longest serving Headmaster, legendary Reg Wenman, and brilliant classicist Cyril Genge.
