School Bus Driver

St. Michaels University School is looking for a part-time school bus driver. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation, this position is responsible for transporting students and adults to a variety of locations and venues. Hours of work vary, including split shifts, early mornings, afternoons, and late evenings as well as weekends and some overnight trips.

Our grid scale for bus drivers is $21.20 to $21.13 per hour with annual increases.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Transports students and/or equipment on local, out of town and overnight field trips in accordance with routes and schedules
  • Directs, monitors and disciplines students and ensures compliance with safe loading, riding and unloading procedures
  • Consults with Manager regarding student behaviour
  • Monitors two-way radio and cell phone
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with BC Motor Vehicle Act, BC Air Brake Manual, National Safety Code and BC Professionals Drivers Manual
  • Reports defects to Manager, assists in assessing maintenance problems and performs minor running maintenance and emergency repair
  • Ensures interior cleanliness of school bus
  • Completes paperwork
  • Secures bus and office
  • May provide emergency first aid
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • This position requires a valid BC Class 2 Drivers license with air brake endorsement, appropriate first aid and CPR certificate and clean driver’s abstract
  • Safety-minded, courteous and able to demonstrate customer service
  • Enjoys working with and being around young people
  • Ability to read and interpret maps
  • Ability to deal with passenger misconduct situations
  • Ability to complete and maintain a log book
  • Ability to problem solve, such as navigating through detours and unanticipated events
