Junior School Associate Teacher

One-term (Sep – Dec), maternity leave position with the possibility of an extension.

Associate teachers are responsible for supporting the homeroom teacher as well as classroom and curriculum materials preparation. This positon also includes supervisory duties at recess and lunch as well as occasional meetings after school.

Requirements:

  • Two or more years of teaching or assistant teacher experience at the elementary level
  • Willingness to support the SMUS Mission and the philosophy that drives our school
  • Professionalism and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching degree

Qualities of a successful candidate:

  • A sound knowledge of early childhood development and pedagogy
  • Understanding of and/or experience in teaching with a Reggio-inspired, constructivist approach
  • Interest in or experience with Maker Spaces, Genius Hour, Inquiry based teaching
  • Dynamic, engaging educator
  • Collaborative team player able to take direction well and work independently
  • Sense of humour and love of this age group
  • Supportive, nurturing personality
  • Ability to document student learning using various tools and methods
