Junior School Primary Music Teacher

Part-time (0.4 FTE), one-year term from September, 2017 to June, 2018.

Requirements:

  • Two or more years of teaching or assistant teacher experience at the elementary level
  • Willingness to support the SMUS Mission and the philosophy that drives our school
  • Professionalism and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be eligible to teach in British Columbia with a specialization in Music Education

Qualities of a successful candidate:

  • Dynamic, engaging educator
  • Experience teaching singing to young learners
  • Training in Kodaly is an asset
  • An understanding of and willingness to facilitate and prepare children for schoolwide performances
  • An understanding of current best practices, differentiation, and a commitment to the needs of all learners
  • An understanding of collaboration within a dynamic Junior School faculty as well within the Music department
  • An ability to provide accompaniment
  • A commitment to professional growth and extra-curricular activities within the school
  • Demonstrated classroom management skills
  • An understanding of a Reggio-inspired approach would be an asset
  • Shares the love of music with children
  • Innovative and flexible
