Middle School Educational Assistant

Full-time one-year term, September, 2017 – June, 2018

Under the direction of the Learning Resource Teacher, the Educational Assistant (EA) works with high functioning Learning Disabled students, who are integrated in the mainstream academic setting and who receive some pull-out learning resource small group support. EAs assist teachers in helping students meet classroom expectations, through extra instruction and reinforcement. They also support the outcomes identified in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This position requires the ability to work as a member of a team, flexibility and a commitment to professional learning.

The Successful Applicant will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Specialization in the field of Special Education
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School students
  • Effective collaboration, organization, and communication skills
  • Support for the notion of pursuing academic success in an environment where the character and self also grow
  • Support a variety of learners including students with learning disabilities, giftedness, challenges with mental health and executive functioning weaknesses
  • Demonstrated ability in instructing students in a wide variety of learning strategies
  • Experience in using technology for day-to-day documentation and communication, and assistive technologies to support students with accommodations
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking and triaging
  • Team player who can anticipate problems and be pro-active in approach
  • Strong administrative background and detail-oriented
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills as part of a multi-disciplinary team
