Middle School Learning Resource

Permanent, full-time position, beginnning September, 2019.

The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:

  • A solid understanding of the BC curriculum and core competencies;
  • Proficient in instruction in, and application of, individualized learning strategies and assistive technologies;
  • Experience with Individualized Education Plans and following up with a success plan for student learning;
  • Demonstrated ability to create, implement and maintain documentation required by the Ministry of Education to support students with exceptionalities;
  • Experience using assistive technology as a tool to support learning (including devices such as MacBooks, Chromebooks, Google Classroom, Moodle and programs such as Read/Write);
  • A passion for ongoing learning and professional development;
  • Strong communication/collaboration skills as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Demonstrated professionalism and excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in applying current best differentiation practices to meet the needs of all learners;
  • Detail-oriented and proficient in using technology for communication;
  • Strong ability to work well in a team and share instructional resources and strategies;
  • Flexibility, accountability, and integrity;

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support, and offer remediation to, a variety of learners including students with learning disabilities, giftedness, challenges with mental health, and executive functioning weaknesses; 
  • Create, implement and maintain documentation required by the Ministry of Education to support students with exceptionalities;
  • Consistent and regular communication with families;
  • Providing small group learning supports that are highly individualized, as well as supporting student learning in an integrated diverse class;
  • Liaising with teaching faculty, parents and administration as an advocate for students;
  • Outreach to the Middle School faculty, development of teacher capacity with identified learners within the classroom;
  • Contributing to the pastoral care of students and the extra-curricular life of the school.
