Important Message from the Nominations Committee RE: 2019 Board of Governors Election

This year, there will be an election for four of the 12 seats on the SMUS Board of Governors because, in addition to the four nominees put forward by the Nominations Committee, three nominations were received from the SMUS Society at large prior to the deadline for nominations on May 14, 2019. The Board of Governors has authorized that the 2019 election be carried out by electronic means using the OpaVote e-voting system. This is a well established system which has been used by many organizations including SMUS to conduct elections in an efficient, secure, easy to use, and cost effective manner.

In accordance with the bylaws, the Nominations Committee will be providing election materials including further information, biographies and pictures of each of the candidates, and electronic ballots and voting instructions to members of the SMUS Society on June 12, 2019. The deadline for voting will be July 31, 2019.

The Nominations Committee wants to ensure that all those who are eligible to vote have an opportunity to do so.

  • Current parents and guardians are automatically included as members and will receive 2019 election materials.
  • In addition, if you are an alumni or past parent or guardian and you received an email or paper nominations notification seeking nominations to the Board sent out on April 23, 2019 you are already registered and will receive 2019 election materials.
