Information Literacy and Technology

This course, taken by all students in grades 6-8, combines information technology with information literacy. Students learn Internet etiquette and master technology applications. Through a mix of direct instruction and project-based learning, students build technology skills, from typing to desktop publishing to photo editing.

Students also build Internet research skills, which can be used in a range of classes and assignments. Core subject teachers often incorporate information technology into their curriculum.

Grade 7 Computer Science (an optional course)

This Computer Science course will be in addition to instruction in technology all students receive as part of their program at the Middle School. This locally developed course will incorporate elements from the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies learning area of the new curriculum including:

  2. Computers and communications devices (digital infrastructure, the Internet of Things),
  3. Robotics (programming and design, sensors, servos, schematics),
  4. An introduction to 3-D modelling, design and printing.

Grade 8 Computer Science (an optional course)

This course will extend on the concepts covered in our grade 7 course. However, students who did not take this course last year can still enroll in our Grade 8 course, and the teachers will adjust the content as needed based on the student’s level/expertise. This locally developed course will incorporate elements from the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies  learning area of the new curriculum including:
