Library work prepares students to be lifelong learners through the acquisition of knowledge and skills that enable them to become critical thinkers and effective users of information in all formats, as well as to develop a love for reading.

Senior School Library Facilities and Technology

The Senior School library is usually as busy as it is quiet. As the study hub for students in Grades 9-12, the library suits both independent and collaborative work and provides all kinds of student support. Small groups can meet in the McGillivray room, students can use one of 18 desks for independent study, and everyone can use the computers on the main floor for a variety of tasks.

Library Hours

Monday-Thursday 7:30 am – 9:00 pm
Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
Sunday 1:00 – 6:00 pm

Extra Opportunities

The library department runs several reading incentive programs throughout the year. Buddy Reading pairs Senior School students with Junior School students to spend an afternoon sharing books and playing games. SMUS also participates in Drop Everything and Read once a year, during which the entire school spends 15 minutes reading novels, magazines or whatever is on hand.
