At the Senior School level, the breadth of course offerings is considerable. For information on the different departments and the courses, make a selection from the list below. For a complete guide to course requirements and detailed descriptions, see the Course Selection Guide, also below.

Politics – its systems, ideologies and history – form the backbone of how our country is run and how the countries of the world interact. Through political science, students begin to understand the complex forces that affect everything from our daily lives to international issues.

Students learn about democratic values, the responsibility of government, and their roles as citizens in today's world. Skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, research, and effective communication are gained as we challenge students to participate in the processes that shape our society and our world.

Students learn:

  • how individuals and interest groups form public discourse;
  • how governments influence and are influenced by global powers;
  • characteristics of a legitimate government;
  • skill sets for debate and public speaking;
  • how to analyze politics in cultural and historical events; and
  • how media shapes public opinion.
