Enable and enlighten students.

David emigrated to Canada from the UK in 1996, and taught at York House School in Vancouver until 2006, when he joined SMUS. David teaches history to students in Grade 10-12, including AP European History.

“I am passionate about what I teach because I love the subject material,” David says. “Teaching history means I would like students to open their eyes to the past, make connections to the future, and learn to think critically as well as see their role in a global society.”

David was appointed Senior Houseparent for Harvey House in September 2012. He is keen to create a dynamic community in the house where the boys are able to flourish in a safe and supportive environment, while participating in the numerous activities the school has to offer. He aims to provide and environment that enables the boys to excel in their academics as well.

In addition to teaching and house parenting, David is the head coach for the Senior girls field hockey team and runs the sailing team in the local league. A big believer in experiential education, David also uses his sailing expertise to help out with outdoor education trips.

David is one of the most well-travelled teachers at SMUS. He has visited many countries in Europe and spent two years backpacking through South and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, and western North America. He’s been to Tanzania and Ethiopia and traversed Central America, and also taught in the UK and Australia.
