Promote student engagement and initiative to help build confidence in a safe and respectful learning environment.
Raechel does her best to lead by example. Whether it is in the classroom, on the field, or in the boarding house, a smile and some friendly words are very important to her.
“I bring positive energy to help inspire my students and colleagues,” she says. “I want to provide students the necessary tools to reach their full potential and develop a desire for lifelong learning and being positive helps a lot.”
Before arriving at SMUS, Raechel spent several summers working for Recreation Oak Bay teaching children’s dance programs and also at the Academy of Ballet in Victoria. She worked for Cowichan Tribes in Duncan on archival projects for children in foster care as well.
“I worked in boarding at Brentwood College School for two years and taught in the Social Studies and PE Departments there as well,” Raechel says. “I am excited to be in such an enriching environment as St Michaels University School working with such an amazing group of master teachers and hard-working staff.”
One of Raechel’s favourite pastimes is travel. She does her best to learn about the history of the countries she visits and impart that knowledge to her students.
“I want students to understand how the past has shaped the world and how they can proactively learn to prepare themselves for their future,” she says. “I take in as much as I can and am a conduit for that knowledge.”
Outside of school Raechel stays busy jogging in Mystic Vale or on Cedal Hill Golf Course, taking yoga classes or dancing.
“I have danced for many years and enjoy taking classes,” she says. “Being active is an integral part of my life and I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a healthy mind in a healthy body.”
