You’ve accepted your place at SMUS, so what comes next? Below you will find an outline of the step-by-step process to get ready for your arrival at SMUS.

If you have questions, our Admissions office is open throughout the year. Contact SMUS Admissions at [email protected].

We are pleased that you will be joining us in September. To make your transition to SMUS a smooth one, we are providing you with some helpful resources as well as a calendar and list of the homework we need you to complete before September. The Family Handbook is where you will find detailed information about Middle School and boarding philosophy, schedules, offerings, rules and uniform requirements. NB: the updated version for 2021-22 will be added in early summer.

Details for the first week of school will be posted closer to the start of school. The Admissions office will also communicate directly to families through the spring and summer. Admissions remains open throughout the summer.

In the meantime, please check our Senior School September information and stay in touch with the Admissions office.

Get Ready for the 2021-22 School Year

As soon as possible

Pay the registration fee. The $3500 registration fee is due upon accepting your place at SMUS. Please refer to your offer letter for details on how to make payment.

As soon as possible

Set up tuition payment. Depending on your student program status, you will either need to pay tuition in full or you will have the ability to set up monthly payments. Please refer to your offer letter for details.

January or as soon as possible

Complete the enrolment forms. The Enrolment Contract and Payment Options Form need to be completed for each student before enrolment is complete. Please sign into the Parent Portal to digitally sign the forms (please note that each parent needs to digitally sign the forms using their own unique parent log in). Please refer to your offer letter for instructions and log in information.

February or as soon as possible

Apply for your study permit. If you do not have a Canadian passport, then you need to apply for a study permit. Once you have completed the enrolment process, the Admissions office will send you an email with full instructions on how to apply for a study permit. This will include a formal letter of acceptance for study permit purposes, receipt of tuition payment, and custodian forms to be notarized in your country. Please read this email carefully and begin the application process right away.

April or as soon as possible

Complete the Boarding Questionnaire. Tell us about yourself and your vision for boarding life. Please complete and save this information in the Parent Portal.

As soon as possible

Parents of boarders are asked to fill out a quick form regarding student permissions while living on campus (you will be sent a link by email).

As soon as possible

Complete the Health Form. In the Parent Portal, complete and submit the Health Form.

May or as soon as possible

Check out the packing list. Plan ahead for any linens or personal items you may need to purchase in advance of your arrival at SMUS by reading the Family Handbook.

May or as soon as possible

Research mobile phone plans. Depending on what country you live in, it may be more cost effective to add an international plan to your existing phone plan in your home country. Mobile phone plans in Canada can be expensive, especially for international students.

May or as soon as possible

Look into banking. Contact your home country bank to see if they provide services in Canada. Depending on where you are coming from, you may be able to use your existing account, or you may need to open a new student account in Canada (Royal Bank of Canada is a good choice for students, but there are others, such as Scotiabank, Bank of Montreal, TD Bank, or CIBC).

May or wait for instructions

Book your flights. Before picking an arrival date, wait for instructions from the Admissions office. It is best to fly to Victoria with connecting flights, rather than using the ferry to Victoria from Vancouver (experienced travelers only). Also, please make sure that any travel bookings that you are making are flexible and changeable without penalty (due to the unpredictable nature of the COVID-19 pandemic).

As soon as possible

School supplies can easily be purchased from an office supplies store in Victoria. Here is a list for students in Grades 6-8.

As soon as possible

Find out where to order linens, cell phones and toiletries and where to set up a bank account. More details here.

July or as soon as possible

The Campus Shop will release information in July as to how to order uniforms online. Ordering instructions will be sent by email when the Campus Shop is ready to accept orders.

Aug. 25 - Sept. 7

Further details and support will be provided throughout the spring and summer.
