It was a big night on June 10 for Senior School student-athletes who celebrated with teammates, coaches, staff and families. Throughout the 2024-25 season, SMUS hosted two provincial championships and SMUS teams competed in 14 provincial championships in girls and boys divisions. The year was highlighted by a historic provincial title in girls basketball, as well as podium finishes by the Senior Boys Rugby team and Boys Cross-Country team. The Senior Girls Field Hockey team, Senior Girls Soccer team and Junior Girls Basketball team all finished fifth in the province.
The evening was highlighted by the main nod of Outstanding Athletes of the Year going to Davis Hardy (basketball, soccer) and Avery Geddes (basketball, soccer, field hockey). The Parents' Auxiliary Sportsmanship awards went to Braxton Lechner (rugby). Junior Athlete of the Year honours celebrated Liam Whiteside and Elspeth Rodger.
The Athletic Director's Merit Award was given out this year to junior national field hockey team players Kendyll Adams, Caitlyn Mullen and Mackenna Brown. Judy Tobacco was in person to present the award named after her to the top performer in athletics (cross-country running or track and field) and this year that went to Grade 12 athlete Beatrice Sharpe. Sport-specific honours continue to be highlighted including Legacy Cup rower Liam Haberl, Nancy Mollenhauer Cup to field hockey's Mackenna Brown, the Billy Greenwell Award to basketball's Davis Hardy and the Dalziel Cup to rugby's Ewan Webber-Smith.
To cap off the night four graduating students were awarded the Multisport Medallions, awarded to those who exemplified a multisport approach for their entire career at SMUS. This went to Avery Geddes, Charlie Anderson, Joss Olcen and Wil Woods.
Joss Olcen and Davis Hardy were also acknowledged for their contributions to the Athletic Council.
The entire room also took time to thank the coaches, staff, transportation team, as well as the facilities and grounds teams who make each season memorable and possible. There was also special acknowledgement to athletic therapist Sydney Chapman and coaches who will not be returning including Deanna Catto (athletics; 2011-2025) and Greg Gilks (rowing; 2017-2025).
