Grad Class of 2025

Whether inspired by economics class, extracurricular leadership, or their own startup dreams, these members of the Class of 2025 are stepping confidently into the world of business. From launching finance clubs and leading entrepreneurial initiatives to studying abroad at top institutions, these students have combined ambition with action—ready to shape the future of commerce, management, and innovation.

Several of this year’s graduates are pursuing studies in business, economics, entrepreneurship, or related fields.

Western University will welcome Helen (Zhiqing) Jiang to the Ivey School of Business, where she also hopes to explore biological sciences. Meanwhile, Huron University, affiliated with Western, will be home to Lifer Will Porter, who will also study at Ivey.

McGill University will welcome SMUS Lifer Haven Mille, who will join the Desautels Faculty of Management, and Zara Sichani who will pursue business studies with aspirations of entering the legal field.

Queen’s University will welcome both Ben Dimaculangan and Lifer Charlie Anderson, who are entering the commerce and business programs, respectively.

Elsewhere in Canada, Kingston Hollis will pursue commerce at McMaster University; Lifer Wil Woods is heading to the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary; and Yanyu Zhang will stay closer to home, studying international economics at the University of British Columbia.

Internationally, Connor Lee will attend Rutgers University in New Jersey to study business, Luc Denux will study business management at the University of San Diego, and Kate Fraser is heading to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland to study business with a marketing focus.

These are just some of the many graduates from the Class of 2025 who are chasing their dreams in business, economics, and entrepreneurship—with the drive and determination to make their mark.

Three SMUS grads are also set to turn their big ideas into impact next year:

Sofia Emelianenko

Sofia Emelianenko

Boarding student from Russia

School: EU Business School
Program: Business Administration and Management

Sofia was a key player on the SMUS Senior Girls Rugby team and served as Head of the Slavic Club. Her most memorable experiences, though, come from boarding life, where she found lasting friendships and a strong support network.

“My favourite event at SMUS is Alumni Weekend—it brings the community together in such a special way. One day, I’d love to come back as an alum myself.”

As she heads to university in a new country, Sofia feels a mix of excitement and nerves, but is eager to explore what lies ahead. She expresses deep gratitude to Ms. McMillan for supporting her throughout all four years of high school.

Caitlin Kirkpatrick

Caitlin Kirkpatrick

Day student from Victoria, BC

School: Queen’s University
Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Smith School of Business

Caitlin was a co-head of the Entrepreneurship Club in Grades 11 and 12, a member of the Business Leadership Club, and actively involved in Model UN since Grade 9. She also contributed to the SMUS music program throughout high school, performing in Senior Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, and on international trips to Argentina and Cuba.

“I’ve always had an idea that I wanted to go into business, but it didn’t really click until AP Macroeconomics in Grade 11. Once I discovered my enjoyment of business and economics, I knew it was the right path for me.”

Excited to explore a new part of the country, Caitlin is looking forward to her next chapter at Queen’s. She thanks her parents and business teachers for preparing her so well.

Jonathan Ooi

AP Art & Design Jonathan Ooi

Boarding student from Hong Kong

School: University of Toronto
Program: Rotman Commerce (hoping to specialize in finance and economics)

A dedicated and proactive student, Jonathan served as Head of House, Head of the Cantonese Club and Mahjong Club, and was an editor for the SMUS Art Magazine. He also founded the Finance and Accounting Club to help peers explore business fundamentals.

“I’m grateful that SMUS has helped prepare me for post-secondary life, not only academically but also as a person, teaching me the importance of being open and proactive to opportunities. I’m super excited to be moving on to university, but I will miss the tight-knit community that SMUS offers.”

His advice? “You never know until you try.”
