Every spring, the Richmond Road campus comes alive in a way that only happens once a year. Alumni Weekend returns May 1 to 3, bringing together alumni, current families, students and friends for a celebration that reflects the full spirit of the SMUS community.

At the heart of the weekend is Saturday, May 2 — a full day on campus open to all. From morning to evening, the school becomes a gathering place where past and present intersect: music carries across the quad, students run their own marketplace, families reconnect and alumni return to the spaces that shaped them.

For Dr. Jeff Aitken, who joined SMUS as Head of School in August 2026, this will be his first Alumni Weekend on campus after a year of meeting alumni around the world.

"To see hundreds of faces return from across the globe is a powerful reminder that this school isn't just a place; it’s a lifelong home," said Mathew Geddes ’93, Head of Mathematics. "Nothing compares to the annual magic of Alumni Weekend, where the map collapses and our past and present come together."

Neil Mulholland ’88, President of the SMUS Alumni Association, sees the weekend as something that continues to renew itself each year.

"The beginning isn't something that happened one time in the past," he said. "Every spring, Alumni Weekend is a reminder of why this community is worth coming back to."

RSVP for Saturday, May 2

Saturday, May 2, begins with a complimentary pancake breakfast with the Board of Governors behind the grill before the community gathers for the Alumni Chapel Service, this year featuring guest speaker Susie Wall ’91.

One of the day’s most anticipated moments follows soon after: the Grad Bear Toss, where the Class of 2026 receives their bears from alumni who once stood in the same place — the first official step in their graduation celebrations.

From there, the campus opens up. Families will find space to gather in the Kids Zone, complete with a bouncy castle and activities led and supported by the Parents' Auxiliary. The Business and Entrepreneurship 10 class fills a marketplace with student-run businesses, while robotics and STEAM showcases, campus tours and boarding house open houses offer a look into student life today. Food trucks arrive at noon, and throughout the afternoon, alumni and student athletics take over the fields and gym.

Saturday evening continues with the Milestone Class Banquet in Graves Hall, bringing together reunion classes from five to 20 years and beyond, before continue celebrations downtown Victoria.

A Weekend of Connection

While Saturday is the main community day, the weekend begins with smaller, invitation-based gatherings. On Friday evening, alumni reconnect at milestone reunions across Victoria, with additional events including the alumni and student rugby banquet and a reception for alumni marking 35 years and beyond.

Sunday offers a final opportunity to connect, with the Cricket Day Out festivities on campus bringing together past and present students for a relaxed close to the weekend.
