Spark Night
SMUS has invested in connecting the latest in research to the education and well-being of students from Junior Kindergarten to graduation and life after school. Spark Nights are free learning events at SMUS that are open to the Greater Victoria community.
Upcoming Spark Night: Safer Schools Together
The Spark Night Engagement Team is hosting it's first community event of 2026 featuring a presentation by Safer Schools Together.
This session is for parents and caregivers and will focus on navigating the digital world of children and adolescents. As students enter a pivotal stage in their digital lives, cell phone ownership increases significantly, video game use expands, and social media engagement can present new challenges. The presentation will offer practical guidance on establishing family rules, using parental controls, developing family technology plans, and monitoring a tween or teen’s digital activity.
During this stage of development, children often encounter situations that test their independence. Parents and caregivers play a critical role in providing guidance and support. Participants will receive an overview of current digital trends, as well as information about concerning apps and platforms, to help strengthen their digital parenting strategies.
Date: Monday, February 2, 2026
Location: SMUS Chapel (3400 Richmond Road)
Time: Light refreshments at 6:00 pm; presentation 6:30-8:00 pm
