Community. This is an important and often repeated word at SMUS. In fact, it is one of the Strategic Priorities in the new strategic plan, Floreat.

In Admissions, we often hear back from prospective families following their visits and shadow opportunities how much they felt welcomed into our community. For our current families, SMUS has become an intricate part of who they are, their friends and their activities. Then there are those who have graduated and have become part of our alumni community who come back for visits, attend alumni events and enrol their children as second and third generation SMUS students. How they are made to feel while on campus is a proud hallmark of distinction at SMUS.

Among the many opportunities to welcome you and the broader community into SMUS is our semi-annual Open Houses. Next Thursday, February 20, by design, our Open House extends into the evening, accommodating families who may find it difficult to visit during the day. While more traditional classes take place during the day, the school comes to life in so many other ways after 3:30 pm.

This is very much where the part of community comes into play and one of the reasons SMUS is recognized for its excellence. The Richmond Road campus is a busy place right up to 10 pm, as well as on weekends. If you haven't seen SMUS in the evening, come by and you’ll see students on the sports fields and athletic centre, students rehearsing for the upcoming musical, the academic support centre in full swing, and our university counsellors busy advising students (and much more). Of course, this Thursday we are also hosting our latest Spark Night with local nutritionist Jenny Naydek.

If you know families who are keen to learn about our Junior School, please mark April 17 on their calendars as that is when the Junior School will welcome prospective families.

If it’s been a while since you last visited us, have a friend, neighbour or relative who is interested in the school, or you're simply curious, Thursday (1-5 pm at the Middle School and 4-8 pm at the Senior School) is a perfect opportunity to drop by the Richmond Road campus. A very warm welcome from our community awaits.
