SMUS Grade 12 student and clarinettist Matty Angus '26 has been named one of CBC Music’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30” for 2025. The 17-year-old began playing clarinet in 2020 and has quickly established himself as one of Canada’s top young musicians, with a string of major competition wins and performances across the country.
This summer, Matty toured with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as one of its youngest members, fresh off a season that included his solo orchestral debut with the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra and winning the prestigious Silverstein Clarinet Competition.
