Student Life

Two friends on the field

As a cellphone-free school, students are encouraged to play together during breaks

Being a SMUS student is about more than just academics. There's always something new and fun happening at the Middle School. Our school is a warm and welcoming community, and students build lasting friendships through bonding experiences in and out of the classroom. Our teachers know each student on a personal level.

At SMUS, students are comfortable knowing they can be who they are – no matter their faith, orientation or background – while being surrounded by accepting and like-minded people. Everyone here wants to see students grow and succeed.

Cellphone-Free Zone

The Middle School is a cellphone-free zone, ensuring that recess and lunch are times for students to play, socialize, and build relationships with one another. Students spend their breaks playing cards, games and sports, and getting fresh air playing outside.

Clubs and Councils

When students aren't in class they have many opportunities to get involved in activities they're passionate (or curious) about. Clubs and councils they can join include:

  • Art Club
  • Honour Band
  • Mandarin Club
  • Math Challengers
  • Robotics Club
  • Sports Teams
  • Student Councils: Service, Social, Sustainability, Athletics and Arts
  • WEB Leaders
  • Weekly Wellness

See a full listing of current clubs and activities on our Activities, Clubs and Councils page.

Food and Dining

Our Sun Centre dining hall is where our Middle School and Senior School students can eat. Students have access to healthy and hot options at every meal, alongside a full salad bar, fruits, cereals and more. The kitchen staff will also work with students if they have allergies or dietary restrictions.
