Congratulations to Kira Barker from San Diego, California, the 2020 winner of The Best School Year Ever® contest! Kira has won a full boarding scholarship for the 2020-21 school year worth $60,000.

“It was a tough decision as there were four amazing candidates. The decision with Kira reflects her strength in so many areas,” says Alexis Lang Lunn, Director of Admissions. “She is very well-rounded with interest in performing arts and sports. She has a very strong academic profile and is very open to trying new things.”

We are also excited to offer $40,000 scholarships to each of our three finalists: Ashley Sankaran-Wee from Vancouver, BC; Jenny Yeh from San Marcos, California; and Hunter Williams from St. Louis, Missouri. The successful students were identified by members of our Admissions, Senior School faculty and student community.

The Best School Year Ever is now in its seventh year. The calibre of eligible students is outstanding and it is a privilege to get to know them, Alexis says. The scholarship contest is open to North American students in Grades 8 to 12 and plays a vital role in recruiting students to the boarding program.

“The contest brings people from different corners of North America. They bring their experiences and their energy into the boarding community which has a positive ripple effect on the entire school,” Alexis says. “Young people like Kira, Ashley, Jenny and Hunter show all of us there is a lot to be hopeful for.”

We want to thank the many amazing young people who entered this year’s contest. Selecting from the strong variety of entries is not an easy task and we appreciate the time and creativity students put into their video submissions.
