Sustainability

At SMUS, our aim is to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge, tools and resources to fulfil their responsibilities as global citizens.

We recognize that for the next generation of leaders, engineers and scientists that sustainability and environmental stewardship are pressing and urgent issues. This recognition extends to our current responsibilities and ensuring a sustainable future for our physical landscape.

The Environmental Sustainability Committee

In line with the “Sustainability” pillar of our Floreat strategic plan, the SMUS Board of Governors approved the establishment of an Environmental Sustainability Committee to provide strategic guidance to the Board, the Senior Leadership Team and other key stakeholders. Learn more about the Committee on the Board Committees webpage.

In addition to developing academic programming, this includes the physical spaces on campus with an aim to improve the environmental/carbon footprint of the SMUS campuses and buildings and our operations. SMUS has contracted an engineering firm to conduct a comprehensive building energy audit, which will identify and prioritize upgrades to reduce emissions and to calculate emissions relating to energy usage at the school.
