Arts

Students perform in the annual musical production

Nearly 200 students participate in the annual musical, on stage or behind the scenes at a professional venue

Let your artistic talents shine by taking advantage of our music, theatre, creative writing and visual arts courses and extracurriculars. No matter your grade or skill level, you can delve into the arts – from Grade 9 Choir or Strings to AP Studio Art and Creative Writing.

Victoria is a city known for its art (the world-famous painter Emily Carr lived here). You’ll take field trips to see exhibits and get master classes from local artists. You’ll also get the chance to perform and show your art in city theatres and galleries. If you need private music instruction outside of class time, we work with teachers who can take your skills to the next level.

Arts Facilities

Music

Schaffter Hall, our music building, boasts individual practice rooms and three large classrooms dedicated to band, choir and strings rehearsals. Students have access to lots of on-campus instruments, including grand pianos, drum sets and percussion instruments, upright basses, acoustic and electric guitars, violins, cellos and more.

Theatre

Our drama room is a large, bright space complete with lighting and sound equipment. The room is stocked with props, costumes and set pieces that are used during classes and large-scale productions. We also have an on-campus theatre (Copeland Lecture Theatre), which seats 140 people, where small performances, including Victoria Fringe Festival shows, are held.

Visual Art

Our large studio space incorporates high ceilings and lots of natural light. Student work is displayed around the classroom and all around campus throughout the year. Students have access to a printing press, silk screens, an electric kiln and electric potters' wheels. The well-stocked supply cupboard includes many types of materials for drawing, oil and chalk pastels, watercolours, oils and acrylic paints, textile paints, printing inks and all manner of interesting equipment needed for ceramics and sculpture.
