The Houses

There are six houses at SMUS - three boys houses and three girls houses - and each one is named after a famous figure in the history of the school. You will become a member of one of the houses when you start at SMUS and it will be your place of residence and your community throughout your time here. More information and a link to the blog of each House can be found below:

Timmis is a diverse, yet close-knit, girls house with the best view on campus! We are respectful of one another and pride ourselves in making Timmis our home. We choose to focus a lot of our energy on food - each week different girls bake or create delicious treats! We also have a reputation of being pretty musical and put on quite a performance each year at Timmis chapel.

One of the best things about being a houseparent is the life-long connections you make (and see being made among the students). Saying goodbye to the girls when they graduate is hard, but so exciting at the same time.
Laurie Parker, Senior Houseparent

Who was Timmis?

Timmis House is named for John J. Timmis. He became headmaster of University School in 1948 - a role he then served for 22 years. He presided over a period of massive growth for the school, both in terms of capital building projects and enrolment, taking the school from only 54 students to more than 250 by 1963!
